Sixth Anniversary

Matt and I celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary on October 1.  It was a sweet day!

We started the celebrations on Friday by going to the zoo.  It had been years since we had been together and the zoo has done some big updates since then.  It was a beautiful day to be out walking around outside.

We decided to walk to Africa and ride the sky tram over Africa.  If you have been to the Kansas City Zoo ever you know it's a great place to walk and things are really spread out.  I thought it was a great idea to ride the sky tram over Africa after the walk and a great way to see the animals.  I clearly didn't think it through or have any idea what the sky trams were actually like.  It's a ski lift people.  A ski lift!  I had a white knuckle grip the whole time.  I couldn't look at anything below me because... you know... death drop!  I kept my eyes on the horizon the whole time.  Ha!  Here's the death trap Matt and I rode.  I called on the Lord Jesus for protection more than once.

After the zoo we went to Foo's Frozen Custard for a treat.  So good!  We went to 5B Candles next door and got our favorite Blackberry Musk candle and a new fall scent called Cranberry Scone.

Saturday we made Anniversary French Toast.  It's a yearly tradition and only made on our anniversary.  We always make a full batch and freeze some for later.

There was also bacon.  Always bacon.

We went to some ritzy neighborhoods and did the Parade of Homes Tour.  We looked at houses that were over the top, million dollar homes.  We looked at some more modest half million dollar homes too.  Some we liked, some we didn't, we agreed that even if we could afford a million dollar home we could not imagine spending all that on a house.  We love to look at homes and see what builders and designers do with the homes.  It's so much fun!

We exchanged gifts, of course!  We always give gifts that are the traditional gift.  Year six is the candy year so we gave each other our favorite candies.  Yum!

Matt and I wanted to go somewhere in KC that we hadn't been for dinner.  We ended up going to Char Bar.  It was really good.  Not the best BBQ in KC but we both really liked it.  It is in Westport in an old bar, they have an outdoor patio with yard games that looks like fun.  We had great service, the food was good, and we shared a tasty cocktail.  A great choice!  It's worth a try for sure and I'd go back happily anytime.

We planned to go to Andre's to get dessert and then to Starbucks on the Plaza to get a coffee and walk around the Plaza.  The drive from Westport to the Plaza was insane.  It was crazy packed on the Plaza!  Turns out it was water fire on Brush Creek where they do a fire and water show on the creek.  We decided to skip the Starbucks walk around and just go to Andre's.  Andre's was so good.  We had amazing service.  The young guy working took time to show us all the candy and pastries they had to offer.  We decided to get some pastries and eat there.  Matt had a rum ball - yellow cake soaked in rum with chocolate buttercream and chocolate sprinkles - and a coffee with Bailey's.  I had a mocha torte - yellow cake with mocha frosting covered in fondant - and a London Fog Latte.  All of it was so delicious and I can't wait to go back to try some of their cafe offerings.  And more chocolate!

It was a wonderful anniversary with my love and best friend!  Here's to 60 more!
