Hello Monday - 9.21.20

Well, it was as a gorgeous weekend as I had hoped.  Everyone knows that summer is my favorite season and I won't mind a few more 80+ degree days this fall, but I do like the change of seasons.  It's like a fresh start.  Settle in - we had a really nice weekend!

Friday morning I did my usual clean house and worked on a sewing project I had in mind.  I like trying to think of ways to use up scraps, so I attempted a scrappy lanyard with some Chiefs scraps.  It's okay.  I'll use it one day and see how I like it.  It was a bit tough to sew together with the seams running throughout.

Then my MIL stopped by with some iris bulbs she had dug up.  We went and grabbed some lunch then headed to The Red Apron.  It's a vintage and antique market only open one weekend a month.  I know the owner from church.  Nancy bought a few things and I got a cute little double bucket for $5 on sale.  I also got some inspiration of things I want to make.  See below - it turned out cute!

I mowed the lawn and hung outside with Pickles.  She chases the sun looking for warm spots to rest.

Friday after dinner Matt and I got our screen door trimmed and hung.  It's so great!  I love me a good cross breeze!  Talk about game changer!

We got a really good deal on this door.  They gave it to us at cost because the screen had a big hole in it.  We know that eventually we'll replace the standard screen with something that Pickles won't scratch up.  For now we just got a little screen patch kit.  We painted it the same color as the front door.

Matt golfed in a tournament on Saturday and got fourth place!  I hit up Hobby Lobby and Joann's for some fabric to make the things I had in mind from our trip to The Red Apron.  I also got some little fake pumpkins and gourds.

There's my little black and white bucket from Friday.  I picked up a drop cloth to make some envelope pillow covers.  My plan is to applique one with a pumpkin and one with a truck that has pumpkins in it.  I have a pattern for the truck, the pumpkin I'm going to wing it.  I also have plenty of scrap fabric for each idea.

Hello, my name is Lisa and I LOVE fat quarters!  As a beginner sewist/sewer/seamstress (what's the word?) they are just so easy.  I'm sure it's not the most cost effective but they are less intimidating for me.  The remnant bin is also a fave.  I got the fall browns and plaids to makes some bunting.  The rainbows, flowers, flamingos, and colorful ones are for face masks and scrunchies and who knows what else.  A zippered pouch?  I also got a free sign at Joann's that says Spring is in the air.  They had a free table set up and each customer could pick one thing.

Saturday night we used Uber Eats for dinner.  They sent me a $30 off promo code.  We ordered steak from Saltgrass Steakhouse.  It was so good!  I've never used Uber Eats and it was fun.  There was a bit of an up charge but not terribly bad.  It seems to depend on the restaurant.

Sunday was a pretty lazy day.  Pancakes, rest, football, and golf.  I finished up the lanyard pictured above.  Then I got to work on the bunting.  It turned out really cute!  I like it a lot!

I cut out squares of fabric 5x5 and 6x6 inches.  Then I folded each square diagonally and sewed down one side.  I flipped each one open and put the seam in the back.   That made it diamond shaped.  I folded the top of the diamond down to create a flap. Then I ironed it flat.  I folded the flap over some wide ribbon and sewed the triangles down.

I made a pot of my mom's vegetable beef soup for dinner on Sunday night and to have leftovers.  So good!
