May the Force Be With You Dog Treats
I’m a little crazy for our dog-child, Pickles. We both are. She’s our girl and I want to give our girl the best. So, what does a dog-mom who wants to eat as cleanly as possible do? She makes her own whole wheat dog treats!
I used our Star Wars cookie cutters for the big ones and a little heart for smaller treats.
Whole Wheat Peanut Butter Dog Treats
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 cup natural peanut butter
1/2 cup milk
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine dry ingredients in a bowl. Add the peanut butter and milk then mix well. Knead dough on a floured surface, roll, and cut with a cookie cutter. Bake on a lightly greased baking sheet for 18-20 minutes, until lightly browned. Let cool and see what your dog thinks. Store in an air tight container. Mine have lasted a month.
Pickles knows where her treats are and when she thinks she needs one she lets us know. Her treat jar is next to the back door. When she comes inside she will stop and sit by the cabinet. She will look up and motion her head towards her treat jar until she gets one. We usually make her do a trick like sit, down, shake, or settle.
