Double chocolate peanut butter cup gooey bars

How's that for a name?

These were so good! So good we didn't even share!  We munched on that 13x9 pan of gooey cake bars for a week. I can attest that they were just as good a week later as they were the day I made them. Here's the recipe. This is a mashup of various recipes I found on Pinterest with the classic Gooey cake bar recipe.

Ingredients:
For the cakey crust-
1 chocolate cake mix
1 egg
8 tablespoons butter, melted

For the filling-
1 package cream cheese, 8 Oz. softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 tablespoons butter, melted
4 tablespoons cocoa powder
16 oz. powdered sugar
Chopped peanut butter cups

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350. Lightly grease 13x9 pan
2.  Combine cake mix, egg, and melted butter.  Press into the bottoms of the pan.
3. Beat cream cheese until smooth. Add eggs, vanilla, and butter.
4.  Mix in cocoa powder and powdered sugar.
5.  Sprinkle chopped peanut butter cups over the cake. Use as many or as little as you'd like. If you have the little mini PB cups you wouldn't even have to chop.
6.  Spread the cream cheese mixture over the top.
7.  Bake for 40-50 minutes. It should be gooey when it comes out.
8.  Cool and enjoy.

These were a huge hit with Matt!  When I suggested taking some to our coworkers he didn't think that was a good idea. No way were we sharing this delicious treat!

  1. Goodness...this sounds so rich and yummy! I've always loved the Gooey cakes (We call them Chess cakes) and the addition of peanut butter cups would make most anything better! Thanks for a great recipe.
